Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for details.
An important official commented the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
